We have discussed ways in which we can support fellow authors, but there is one group that deserves even more attention and love: Book clubs. Where would we be without book clubs and their readers?
Book clubs rarely receive the love they deserve for supporting our work. Collectively, they are a force to be reckoned with and an integral part of the business of writing. So, how do we show them more love?
Here are a few suggestions:
Establish a rapport with them before soliciting them to read your book. Take the time to introduce yourself before your project is released.
Avail yourself to them. Ask them if there is anything they need from you to support what they do.
Set aside copies of your book and send some to book club administrators as a token gift for their support.
Thank them in your book’s acknowledgements.
Feature them on your blog.
Book clubs are book lovers who buy. They are to be regarded with the same esteem as any customer or client. Truthfully, we as authors cannot afford to ignore them or offend them.
Please share how you engage book clubs? If you don’t mind, I would love to read your responses in the comment section. Thank you.
